The Academy is an organization of storytellers from around the world, and owes their global membership a commitment to supporting the planet. For the past decade, the Academy has been committed to reducing its carbon footprint. For the past seven years, the Oscars show has had a net zero carbon imprint. It continues to expand their sustainability plan with the ultimate goal of becoming carbon neutral. The organizers of 92nd Academy Awardswhich took place on February 9, 2020 put a lot of effort into making the show more carbon neutral. The attendees were served plant-based vegan appetizers before the show and introduced a plant-based menu in the Luncheon.

However, what is inspiring is the fact that attendees of the ceremony followed the same route. Many of them chose to take a more sustainable and eco-friendly approach when picking their gowns. Instead of getting new, custom-made outfits, a handful of celebrities decided to recycle their previously worn attire. You may have a look!

Arianna Huffington

Arianna Huffington recycles fashion with a perfect autonomy. “When you own something you love, wear it again and again,” Huffington posted. “It saves time, money, mind-share and the environment!” Journalist Arianna Huffington wore the same Valentino dress she wore back in 2013 and looked as glamorous as ever.

Elizabeth Banks

The beautiful red dress Elizabeth Banks wore to the ceremony was the same one she wore 16 years ago in 2004. “It’s gorgeous and it fits…so why not wear it again?!” wrote the actress on a recent Instagram post.

Jane Fonda

Jane Fonda has promised to never buy a new piece of clothing again, and apparently not even the Oscars can get her to change her mind. When Fonda showed up to present the Best Picture award, she did so in a dress she’d previously worn to another major film event.

Fonda had worn the same beaded red Elie Saab Couture number six years prior for the opening night of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.

Joaquin Phoenix

In January, Joaquin Phoenix announced that he would wear only one Stella McCartney tuxedo on the 2020 awards red carpet to promote sustainable fashion. For the Joker star — an awards favorite — this move fits in with other aspects of his moral philosophy; he’s an outspoken environmentalist and animal rights supporter.

Saoirse Ronan

Actress Saoirse Ronan repurposed the Gucci dress she wore to the BAFTAs into a glamorous black and blue gown.

Surely, celebrities are proving that there is nothing wrong in recycling and repeating a dress and that sustainable fashion is the new normal here!
